The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has been recognised for his outstanding contributions to public service under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. On Monday, he received the 2024 Service Delivery Award from Blueprint Newspaper at a high-profile event held at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The award presentation took place during the Blueprint Impact Series and Awards, which also featured a lecture titled “Exploring the Potential of Livestock Export.” The gathering brought together top government officials, key policymakers, and media leaders. It aimed to highlight public sector achievements and stimulate national dialogue on economic development.
Professor Utsev, on receiving the award, thanked Blueprint for the honour and dedicated it to God and President Tinubu. He described the recognition as both humbling and motivating. According to him, it confirms that the Ministry’s efforts are yielding results that positively impact communities.
The Minister explained that his team remains focused on expanding access to clean water and proper sanitation. He said these services directly affect the health, productivity, and dignity of citizens. Therefore, the Ministry’s programmes are designed to make real improvements in people’s daily lives.
In his speech, Professor Utsev stressed that water and sanitation are essential drivers of development. He noted that lack of clean water often leads to disease outbreaks, school absenteeism, and food insecurity. To change this, the Ministry has adopted practical strategies that ensure infrastructure is functional, accessible, and sustainable.
He pointed to several current projects, including rural water schemes and urban sanitation upgrades. These projects, he said, are being rolled out across the country with clear targets and timelines. He emphasised that the Ministry values results, not just activity.
In addition, the Minister highlighted partnerships as a vital component of success. He mentioned that the Ministry is working closely with state governments, donor agencies, and community-based organisations. These collaborations, he said, help stretch limited resources and ensure long-term impact.
Professor Utsev also called for citizen involvement in water resource management. He encouraged local communities to take ownership of public infrastructure and support the government’s maintenance efforts. According to him, progress becomes more sustainable when the people are part of the solution.
He concluded by reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda. He said every initiative from his office would continue to reflect transparency, accountability, and a deep concern for public welfare. The goal, he noted, is to build a nation where access to clean water and sanitation is a reality for all.
The Blueprint award serves as a strong endorsement of his leadership and a reminder that performance and integrity in public service still matter. Professor Utsev’s recognition reflects growing public appreciation for ministries that deliver results, and it sets a higher benchmark for others to follow.
