Moov Africa: Top Mobile Network in Togo, Second in UEMOA.

Moov Africa’s Togolese branch has reaffirmed its position as the leader in mobile internet quality of experience for the second year in a row. It also holds the second position in the WAEMU region, outpacing its rival YAS, which was previously known as Togocom and is now part of the Axian group. This achievement was announced on Tuesday, April 28, 2025, by the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARCEP), following a survey conducted among Togolese consumers throughout 2024.

The research evaluated five critical indicators of mobile internet quality of experience (QoE): average download speed, average upload speed, latency, web browsing, and YouTube video streaming. With a total score of 64,865 points, Moov Africa Togo leads over YAS, which scored 62,148 points. In 2023, Moov Africa was already ahead with 55,172 points. Specifically, in terms of 4G mobile internet, both companies demonstrated strong performance in download speeds, with YAS achieving 38.4 Mb/s and Moov Africa Togo at 34.01 Mb/s.

Video streaming results were also promising, with success rates of 83.37% for Moov and 84.70% for YAS. Regarding latency, a crucial factor for smooth browsing, Moov Africa Togo recorded an average of 28.06 milliseconds, while its competitor had an average of 31.16 milliseconds.

The performance of web browsing and 4G upload speeds shows a mixed picture, which are crucial for user experience. The success rate for browsing is moderate, at 57.34% for Moov Africa Togo and 52.55% for YAS. Upload speeds, vital for activities like file transfers and video calls, are capped at 13.15 Mb/s for Moov and drop to 8.91 Mb/s for YAS. In the competitive landscape, Moov Africa Togo and YAS are establishing their positions. Within the WAEMU region, which comprises eight member states, Moov ranks second among 16 evaluated operators, while YAS is in fourth place. Notably, in 4G services, Moov leads the pack, with YAS in third place. On a broader scale, among 55 African operators assessed, Moov Africa Togo is positioned 8th for overall mobile internet, while YAS is 12th.

In the 4G category, Moov excels at 3rd place, surpassing YAS, which is 6th. ARCEP acknowledges the advancements and competitive dynamics between the two primary operators in the country but stresses that the quality of experience still falls short of the standards seen in the most efficient markets, especially concerning internet browsing and upload speeds. Consequently, the regulator has urged Moov Africa Togo and YAS to enhance their continuous improvement initiatives to align their services with the best African and international benchmarks.
