NASENI: Driving Nigeria’s Fourth Industrial Revolution from the Heart of the Abuja Technology Village

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is taking a major leap forward in its mission to industrialize Nigeria by officially establishing its presence within the Abuja Technology Village. This strategic move positions NASENI at the forefront of Nigeria’s Fourth Industrial Revolution, aligning innovation, research, and advanced manufacturing with the country’s broader development goals.

Often described as Nigeria’s engine room for technological self-reliance, NASENI has been at the centre of initiatives aimed at transforming the country into a knowledge-driven, innovation-led economy. With its relocation to the Abuja Technology Village—a government-designated science and technology park and free trade zone—NASENI is solidifying its role as a key player in national industrial transformation.

The agency’s relocation comes at a time when Nigeria is accelerating its push towards becoming a globally competitive industrial economy. By integrating its research institutes, innovation centres, and advanced engineering programmes into a single technology-focused hub, NASENI is strengthening its ability to deliver cutting-edge solutions across sectors including agriculture, energy, manufacturing, transportation, and defence.

Speaking on the significance of the move, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Khalil Halilu, described the new location as “a natural fit” for the agency’s long-term vision. He emphasized that the Abuja Technology Village offers the right ecosystem for collaboration with startups, research institutions, academia, and the private sector.

“Our presence in the Abuja Technology Village marks a new chapter in NASENI’s journey. This environment allows us to seamlessly merge our R&D efforts with industrial applications, turning prototypes into products and ideas into national solutions,” he said.

Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has placed priority on industrial development and digital innovation, NASENI has received increased attention and support. The agency’s mandate includes not only building home-grown technology but also ensuring technology transfer, commercialisation, and skills development that align with Nigeria’s industrialisation blueprint.

The Abuja Technology Village provides NASENI with world-class infrastructure, access to a diverse talent pool, and proximity to international organisations and venture capital—ingredients that are crucial for the success of a 21st-century innovation ecosystem.

NASENI’s presence in the tech hub is also expected to catalyse growth in adjacent industries and attract new investment into Nigeria’s technology and manufacturing sectors. Already, the agency is working on flagship projects including solar energy solutions, electric vehicle production, smart agriculture tools, and advanced machine tools—developments that reflect its commitment to technological independence.

Industry experts have lauded NASENI’s move as timely and strategic, noting that situating the agency within a dedicated technology village underscores the seriousness of Nigeria’s ambition to become a leader in Africa’s industrial and digital economies.

As NASENI settles into its new home, it brings with it a renewed focus on problem-solving through innovation, enhanced collaboration with industry, and a bold determination to put Nigerian engineering and science on the global map.

With its feet firmly planted in the Abuja Technology Village, NASENI is not just witnessing the Fourth Industrial Revolution—it is building it, right from the ground up.
