NASENI to Build One of Africa’s Largest Renewable Energy Parks — Halilu

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is taking a bold step toward Africa’s clean energy future. According to its Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, NASENI is establishing one of the biggest renewable energy parks on the continent.

Halilu made the announcement while outlining the agency’s renewed commitment to Nigeria’s energy transition and industrial development. He said the energy park will support solar power production, electric vehicle innovation, and clean energy research. It will also strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to lead in climate-friendly technologies across Africa.

He explained that the park will serve as a hub for green manufacturing, technology transfer, and job creation. This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s goals for energy access, industrial growth, and economic sustainability. The project will also help reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported solar components and energy systems.

NASENI has already increased its solar panel production from 21 megawatts to 50 megawatts within a year. Plans are underway to reach 100 megawatts in 2025. These efforts form part of a wider strategy to support rural electrification, smart agriculture, and domestic industrialisation. Halilu stressed that expanding local capacity will lower energy costs and create new opportunities across the country.

He noted that NASENI’s work goes beyond manufacturing. The agency also focuses on developing human capital, especially among young innovators and entrepreneurs. Through programmes like HatchDev and the Accelerated Technology Transfer Scheme, NASENI is helping youths turn ideas into real businesses.

Several international partnerships have already been signed to support the renewable energy park. These include joint ventures on lithium battery production, solar module assembly, and clean transport solutions. Halilu said collaboration will drive the scale and impact needed to meet future energy demand.

He also described the project as a critical part of South-South cooperation and a model for Africa’s industrial revival. According to him, the park will combine local innovation with global expertise to solve shared challenges. It will also contribute to Nigeria’s climate commitments and create cleaner, more reliable energy for millions.

Halilu added that the renewable park is not just an infrastructure project. It is a symbol of Nigeria’s readiness to lead Africa in sustainable energy. He believes that with the right investments, policies, and partnerships, Nigeria can become a major clean energy hub.

He called on investors, development partners, and the private sector to support NASENI’s vision. He said now is the time to build forward and create lasting impact. With this project, Halilu affirmed that NASENI is not only powering homes and industries—it is powering the future.
