NASENI Trains Staff for Nationwide Solar Home Systems Deployment

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has launched a three-day training programme to strengthen staff capacity in renewable energy. On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the Agency began the programme, which focuses on the installation and maintenance of 100,000 Solar Home Systems across Nigeria.

While declaring the training open, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, stressed the importance of equipping staff with practical skills. He explained that without trained personnel, solar energy projects risk losing their long-term impact. Mr. Halilu, who was represented by Mrs. Blessing Agbo, the Overseeing Officer of NASENI Solar Energy Ltd (NSEL), Karshi, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to Nigeria’s clean energy transition.

Moreover, the training goes beyond theory. Participants are exposed to practical demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and real-life problem-solving scenarios. This approach ensures that staff can confidently install, operate, and maintain solar systems in different environments. In addition, the training prepares them to handle technical challenges quickly, thereby guaranteeing that households enjoy uninterrupted power supply.

For many Nigerians, especially in rural communities, the lack of reliable electricity remains a daily challenge. Consequently, the deployment of 100,000 Solar Home Systems will bring light to thousands of homes. Families will study under bright lights, small businesses will operate longer hours, and healthcare facilities will deliver better services. Furthermore, with solar systems in place, communities can reduce their reliance on costly fuel generators, which often harm both finances and the environment.

Equally important, NASENI is building local expertise instead of depending on external contractors. By investing in its staff, the Agency creates a workforce capable of sustaining renewable energy solutions nationwide. This aligns with NASENI’s broader mandate to promote indigenous innovation and strengthen Nigeria’s technological independence. As a result, the project not only provides energy but also builds national capacity for long-term progress.

The initiative also contributes to global climate goals. Nigeria, like many other nations, faces the urgent task of reducing its carbon footprint. By promoting solar energy, NASENI offers a clean alternative to fossil fuels while expanding access to affordable electricity. In this way, the Agency combines environmental responsibility with economic development.

Additionally, leadership within the Agency continues to highlight the importance of inclusivity. Mrs. Blessing Agbo’s role in the project shows that women are contributing actively to Nigeria’s renewable energy transformation. Her involvement further inspires young women to see opportunities in science, technology, and engineering. This inclusivity strengthens the workforce and ensures that diverse perspectives guide Nigeria’s innovation journey.

As the training progresses, staff gain not only technical knowledge but also the confidence to deliver sustainable solutions. The three-day programme reflects NASENI’s clear vision: to light up Nigeria through renewable energy while empowering its people with the skills to sustain it. With every system installed, the Agency takes Nigeria closer to a future where reliable solar power becomes an everyday reality.
