NDDC Boss Urges Youths to Seize Tech Opportunities at Port Harcourt Expo

Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has issued a compelling call to action, urging Nigerian youths to seize the wealth of opportunities presented by the annual Port Harcourt Tech Expo. Speaking at the 2025 edition of the event, which drew a record-breaking 325,000 participants both on-site and virtually, Ogbuku emphasized the transformative power of technology in shaping a prosperous future.

“Technology is the bridge to a prosperous future,” Ogbuku stated, encouraging young people to take ownership of their careers and futures by actively engaging with platforms like the Tech Expo to develop critical skills and build sustainable careers. He stressed that while the government has a responsibility to create enabling environments, it is ultimately the responsibility of individuals to seize the opportunities provided.

The 2025 Tech Expo, themed “Emergence,” was sponsored by the NDDC and featured a diverse range of activities, including keynote addresses, innovation showcases, panel discussions, and practical workshops. Keynote speakers, including representatives from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Pana Holdings, highlighted the importance of local content in tech development and the concept of digital sovereignty. Other speakers promoted innovative strategies for tech entrepreneurs, such as the “blue ocean” strategy of creating new markets.

The Expo also provided a platform for emerging entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative ideas, with experts exploring the evolving role of technology in shaping Africa’s digital economy, with a strong focus on sustainable innovation. Practical sessions delved into software engineering, automation, and fintech trends, offering hands-on experiences for attendees. A cultural showcase celebrating Nigeria’s heritage added a vibrant dimension to the event, reinforcing the growing intersection between technology and local identity.
