Nigeria Defence Chief Advocates Border Fencing to Curb Criminal Movement

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has proposed fencing Nigeria’s borders with neighboring countries to control the movement of armed criminals.

Speaking at the VON Forum, General Musa expressed concern that Nigeria is surrounded by four Francophone countries in the Sahel region, warning that instability in the Sahel could significantly impact Nigeria. He emphasized the need for stricter border management, citing examples of countries like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia that have successfully used fencing to enhance security.

Despite the challenges, General Musa assured that the Armed Forces of Nigeria are committed to protecting the nation and that Nigeria will remain resilient. He stressed the importance of national unity, citizen collaboration, and good governance in overcoming security challenges, and called for a national census to create a comprehensive citizen database.
