Nigeria Immigration Service Announces New Passport Fees Effective September 1

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced an upward review of the fees for Nigerian standard passports, with the new charges set to take effect from 1st September 2025.

In a press release issued on Thursday and e-signed by ACI AS Akinlabi, Service Public Relations Officer at the NIS Headquarters, Abuja, the agency explained that the decision was aimed at maintaining the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while ensuring sustainable service delivery.

According to the statement, the new fee structure applies only to passport applications made within Nigeria. The revised rates now set the cost of a 32-page passport with five-year validity at ₦100,000, while a 64-page passport with ten-year validity will cost ₦200,000.

However, the NIS clarified that passport application fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged, retaining the existing charges of $150 for a 32-page passport with five-year validity and $230 for a 64-page passport with ten-year validity.

Reaffirming its commitment to balancing effective service delivery with accessibility, the statement added, “The Service reiterates its commitment to balancing quality service delivery with the need to ensure passport services are accessible to all Nigerians.”

The review comes as part of ongoing reforms to improve efficiency, strengthen operational standards, and sustain the quality of Nigerian travel documents.
