Nigeria Loses a “Living Library”: FIRS Chairman Mourns Dr. Olunloyo

Abuja, Nigeria – The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has expressed his sorrow over the death of Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of Oyo State, describing it as a significant loss to Nigeria’s intellectual community.

In a condolence message issued through his Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, Adedeji praised Olunloyo as an exceptional individual distinguished by his academic brilliance and extensive knowledge. He noted that Olunloyo earned a First Class degree and later obtained a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, at the young age of 26, a feat Adedeji described as a clear testament to his genius.

Adedeji likened the late scholar to “Nigeria’s own Albert Einstein,” highlighting not only his academic achievements but also his remarkable appreciation for the arts. According to Adedeji, Dr. Olunloyo was a multifaceted individual—fluent in classical music, particularly the works of Mozart, and deeply rooted in literature, often quoting Shakespeare to illustrate life’s truths.

The FIRS boss reflected on their interactions, saying they were filled with insightful conversations and life-shaping wisdom. He remarked that Dr. Olunloyo’s passing signifies the loss of a living library, echoing an African proverb about the death of elders.

Dr. Adedeji extended his condolences to the family, associates, and admirers of the late governor, emphasizing that his intellectual legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. He concluded by stating that although Dr. Olunloyo is gone, his contributions to Nigeria’s academic and cultural heritage remain indelible.
