DAURA, Nigeria – The Daberam community in Katsina State, Nigeria, is appealing to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Umaru Radda to revive a long-abandoned National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) farm. The project, originally launched by former President Muhammadu Buhari, aimed to support agriculture and livestock development but has since fallen into disuse.

Community leader Alhaji Tuno Isah praised Buhari for initiating the project, noting that it benefited residents through the production of honey, goats, rabbits, and poultry. He emphasized that reviving the farm would boost local businesses, generate revenue for the state, and empower rural farmers.
“We appeal to President Tinubu and Governor Radda to bring back the NALDA farm,” Isah said. “It aligns with the government’s interest in meat exportation and would provide sustainable livelihoods for our people.”
Isah also highlighted that Governor Radda’s recent goat distribution initiative for women could be significantly enhanced through the farm’s restoration. He urged the government to expand the local dam and establish a marketplace in Daberam to stimulate economic activities.
Local leaders attributed the farm’s failure to excluding community members from its management, stressing the importance of local involvement in government projects to ensure sustainability.
The appeal comes as agriculture remains a major economic pillar in Katsina State, with the revival of the NALDA farm seen as vital for food security, job creation, and sustainable rural development. The situation highlights the challenges faced by many developing nations in ensuring the sustainability of agricultural projects and the importance of community involvement in their management.
