Nigeria’s Anti-Corruption Agency Recovered Nearly $500 Million in One Year.

Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported that it recovered nearly $500 million in illicit funds last year and achieved over 4,000 criminal convictions, marking the highest number since the agency was established more than 20 years ago.

As Africa’s largest energy producer, Nigeria has faced persistent challenges with deep-rooted corruption, which many citizens believe exacerbates the widespread poverty in the nation.

In a report released on Monday, the EFCC indicated that a portion of the recovered funds has been reinvested into government initiatives.

According to Transparency International’s most recent Corruption Perception Index, Nigeria ranks 140 out of 180 countries.
