Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, inaugurated a state-of-the-art National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) community ICT center in Ibadan yesterday, at the Oladipo Alayande School of Science.
The center, facilitated by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a program under the Office of the First Lady, through NITDA, was handed over to the Oyo State government as a socio-investment intervention to enhance digital learning in the state.
Speaking at the inauguration, Senator Tinubu said the ICT center, named after former Minister of Trade Chief (Mrs.) Onikepo Akande, will empower women and girls with the skills needed to break traditional barriers and access new opportunities.
She noted that this is the third such center inaugurated, with approximately 10 others currently under construction across the country.
“This center we are inaugurating today is the third one. By the grace of God, the fourth, which is located in Benue State, would be ready for commissioning soon,” she said.
Senator Tinubu emphasized the non-political nature of the program, stating, “Our program is not political. We do the work because we are all Nigerians… All our programs are people-centered. We are not biased and we are not favoring one party over the other.”
She added that “10 additional digital economy centers are ongoing and would be ready for inauguration soon,” highlighting the importance of ICT knowledge for empowering communities, particularly women.
