NITDA Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for National Development at GITEX 2025

The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Abdullahi, has reaffirmed NITDA Nigeria’s strong commitment to using artificial intelligence (AI) to drive national development, stimulate innovation, and strengthen global competitiveness. He made this known during a ‘fireside’ chat at the AI Stage of the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) 2025 in Dubai.

Speaking at the global technology gathering, Abdullahi explained that Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda remains anchored on innovation, inclusion, and sustainability. He emphasized that artificial intelligence offers Nigeria an unprecedented opportunity to solve real societal challenges while creating new economic possibilities. According to him, AI can revolutionize sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and governance when adopted with the right framework and vision.

He highlighted NITDA’s continuous efforts to position Nigeria as a regional hub for digital excellence. Through the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), the agency continues to train young Nigerians, support research, and promote ethical AI development. Abdullahi noted that the ongoing review of the National Artificial Intelligence Policy aims to align local strategies with global best practices while maintaining Nigeria’s digital sovereignty.

The NITDA boss also stressed the importance of collaboration. He explained that true progress depends on partnerships between government, academia, and the private sector. He added that international cooperation is equally crucial, as it helps Nigeria learn from global experiences while promoting indigenous innovation.

Furthermore, Abdullahi reaffirmed that the Federal Government remains fully committed to implementing policies that encourage responsible AI deployment. He said such initiatives will not only enhance productivity but also create new jobs and boost digital inclusion across the country. Through these efforts, Nigeria aims to build an ecosystem where technology empowers people rather than replaces them.

At GITEX 2025, one of the world’s largest technology exhibitions, Abdullahi used the platform to project Nigeria’s digital potential to international investors and innovators. He emphasized that NITDA Nigeria is working tirelessly to attract investment, promote local talent, and develop the infrastructure needed to sustain a knowledge-driven economy.

He also called on young innovators to explore AI solutions tailored to Nigeria’s unique challenges. According to him, empowering local creators will ensure that the country’s digital future reflects its cultural values and economic priorities.

Abdullahi’s message at GITEX reinforced NITDA’s leadership in advancing digital transformation across Africa. He said Nigeria’s participation in the event demonstrates its readiness to compete globally and collaborate with world leaders in technology.

With this renewed commitment, NITDA Nigeria continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s technological destiny. By focusing on innovation, collaboration, and ethical AI adoption, the agency seeks to create a future where digital intelligence drives inclusive growth and sustainable national development.
