“The days of bloodshed are numbered!” That’s the strong message delivered by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, as he pledged an end to the violence plaguing Benue State and the North Central region. Akume assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is fully committed to restoring peace and security, emphasizing that the “Renewed Hope Agenda” places the safety and protection of all citizens as a top priority.
Akume’s firm statement comes on the heels of President Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue State, where he witnessed firsthand the suffering caused by the ongoing conflict. The SGF emphasized that the President was deeply moved by the plight of displaced persons and victims of violence, and has issued an unambiguous directive to security agencies: leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice.
The SGF urged all stakeholders – political leaders, traditional rulers, and community leaders – to set aside their differences and work together to achieve lasting peace. He also called for renewed support for the peace initiatives he championed during his tenure as governor of Benue State.

Akume highlighted the Federal Government’s multi-pronged approach to tackling the crisis, which includes robust military operations, targeted development initiatives to address the root causes of the conflict, and the provision of humanitarian assistance through agencies like NEMA.
“This administration will not rest until Benue people can sleep with their eyes closed,” Akume declared, sending a clear message to those responsible for the violence. “The era of impunity is over!” The government’s commitment to both security and development offers a glimmer of hope for a peaceful and prosperous future for Benue State and the entire North Central region.
