Okpebholo to Launch E-Library at Edo Varsity

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, is set to inaugurate the Ehi-Agenmonmen Business Administration E-Library at Edo State University, Uzairue, today, Monday, April 6, 2026. This event marks a significant advancement in the state’s commitment to modernizing educational infrastructure. During the ceremony, the Governor will also perform the ground-breaking for two other major projects: a State-of-the-Art Health Centre and an Ultra-modern Fitness Centre. These initiatives aim to enhance both the academic and physical well-being of the university community.

New Infrastructure for Edo State University

The inauguration of the E-Library represents a milestone in digital learning for the institution. Philanthropist and business leader Ehi Agenmonmen, Chairman of Freedom Group Limited, donated the facility to the university. This modern resource center will provide students and researchers with access to vast digital databases and global academic materials. Additionally, it supports the university’s goal of maintaining its status as a premier center for research and innovation in Nigeria.

Furthermore, the Governor will initiate construction on the university’s new Health and Fitness Centres. Businessman Peter Omoh Dunia is funding the Fitness Centre, highlighting the success of public-private partnerships in the state. These facilities will serve as vital hubs for the campus, promoting a balanced lifestyle for thousands of students. Consequently, the university is expected to see a boost in its overall appeal and national ranking.

Renovations at Auchi College

Ahead of the university events, Governor Monday Okpebholo will also open the newly renovated Auchi College. This project was similarly facilitated by Mr. Peter Omoh Dunia to improve technical and vocational training in the region. The Governor noted that upgrading such colleges is essential for equipping Edo’s youth with marketable skills. Therefore, these renovations align with the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda to foster economic growth through quality education.

The Governor’s visit to these institutions underscores his focus on “Legacy Projects” that directly benefit the grassroots. By partnering with private philanthropists, the state is able to accelerate its developmental goals despite fiscal constraints. The community has lauded this collaborative approach, noting that it brings immediate improvements to public services. Consequently, these projects serve as a blueprint for future infrastructure developments across the state.

A Backstory of Educational Excellence

Edo State University, Uzairue (formerly Edo University, Iyamho) has consistently led the way in digital learning since its inception. It was the first university in West Africa to adopt the CANVAS Learning Management System, delivering an Ivy League-style experience. The conferment of an Honorary Doctorate on Ehi Agenmonmen in 2025 further solidified the bond between the institution and its key benefactors. This history of excellence continues to attract significant investments from the private sector.

Before the current administration, many state-owned institutions faced challenges with decaying infrastructure and inadequate funding. Governor Monday Okpebholo has prioritized these issues by increasing subventions and encouraging philanthropic contributions. This backstory explains why the current wave of inaugurations is viewed with such optimism. It reflects a strategic shift toward sustainable, technology-driven education in Edo State.

Edo E-Library – Future Outlook for State Infrastructure

As these projects kick off, the state government plans to replicate similar models in other senatorial districts. The Governor intends to ensure that every major educational institution in Edo has access to high-speed internet and modern research tools. Additionally, more “Wellness Centers” will be integrated into public spaces to promote community health. This proactive stance is expected to significantly improve the human capital index of the state.

With the continued support of local and international partners, Edo State is poised for a total educational transformation. The commitment of Monday Okpebholo to “Results-Oriented Governance” remains the driving force behind these successes. For the students and faculty at Edo State University, today’s events represent a firm promise of a brighter, more competitive future. The journey toward a fully modernized Edo State continues with these landmark initiatives.
