Oyo Governor Makinde Declares Wednesday Public Holiday For Isese Day Celebration

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved Wednesday as a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Isese Day celebration.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan, noting that the governor granted the work-free day to enable traditional religion worshippers and other residents of the state to mark the occasion.

Governor Makinde urged that the celebration be used as a period of reflection and prayers. He said it should serve as a moment “for the peace, unity, and stability of Oyo State in particular, and Nigeria as a whole.”

The state government further called for wide publicity of the governor’s approval to ensure that residents and civil servants across Oyo are duly informed.

Isese Day, observed annually, is dedicated to celebrating the cultural heritage, values, and traditions of the Yoruba people, and has become a recognised holiday in some states across the South-West.
