Police Assure Rivers Residents Of Tight Security During LG Polls, Arrest 33 Suspects For Various Crimes

The Rivers State Police Command has assured Rivers people of uncompromised security during the Saturday, August 30, 2025, local government elections across the State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju made the commitment during a joint security press briefing, at the Command’s headquarters, in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.

The CP who led the briefing, revealed that recently, through united effort of the security agencies, they crackdown on violent crimes, leading to the arrest of numerous suspects involved in heinous offences such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, human trafficking, and murder, as well as the recovery of vital exhibits.

According to Adepoju “In the past months, the Rivers State Police Command, working in close synergy with the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), DSS, and other critical security stakeholders, has made remarkable progress in our sustained operations to curb criminal activities across the State”.

Narrating the recent achievements, the State Commissioner of Police, said 12 persons were arrested for alleged vandalism at an oil-spilled well in Kpean community.

He mentioned the arrested suspects to include Joseph Nsukpe (38), James Nkpogio (20), Godspower Ngbam (28), Happy Mdor (27), Apolebabari Ibede (35) and seven others. 

Adepoju further revealed that seven persons were murder of a legal practitioner, Bright Owhor, theft of his funds and a cult-related violence. He disclosed to their names to include: Prince Samuel (30), Daniel Godwin (25), Henry Peter (24), Godfrey Emmanuel (30), Chukwu Nneji (34), Justice Dimkpa (27) and Promise Wikere (22).

Operatives of the joined security also arrested 14 suspects for interstate car snatching syndicate, alleged cult killings, and sea piracy in the State.

Some of the items recovered from the suspects were 21 AK 47 rifles, 66 Locally made guns, 8,000 Ammunition, 4 Magazines, 8 Revolver Pistols, 115 Vehicles and 34.Pump action.

Other recovered exhibits are 2 Dane guns, 2 Scorpions Sub-machine Gun, 1 Lar Riffle, 8 Explosives, 10

English-made pistol, 2 GMP, 67 Cartridges and 15 Conventional ammunition.

Meanwhile, the police commissioner has reassured the Command’s commitment to the safety and security of all citizens and residents of the State. 

He said “These operations reflect a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and ensure public confidence in law enforcement agencies, especially as it concerns the upcoming chairmanship/councillorship election”. 

He however, appealed to the members of the public to partner with the security agencies in giving credible information to serve you better.
