President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to retired Major-General David Medayese Jemibewon on the occasion of his 85th birthday, paying tribute to the retired military officer and elder statesman for a life marked by sacrifice, honour, and distinguished service to Nigeria.
In a heartfelt message released on Sunday through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu joined the family, friends, and associates of the former Minister of Police Affairs in celebrating what he described as a remarkable life filled with meaningful contributions to national growth and democratic advancement.
The President praised General Jemibewon’s unwavering commitment to the service of the nation, both in uniform and in civilian leadership. He described him as a symbol of integrity, discipline, and patriotism, whose career has left an enduring legacy in the annals of Nigeria’s history. According to Tinubu, Jemibewon’s footprints can be seen in the strengthening of national security institutions, the promotion of democratic values, and the mentoring of future leaders.
“General Jemibewon belongs to a rare class of Nigerians who gave their all to the service of our nation without losing sight of the ideals of justice, discipline, and unity,” President Tinubu said. “His exemplary conduct in and out of office reflects the kind of leadership Nigeria needs as we work towards a more secure, stable, and prosperous country.”
President Tinubu highlighted General Jemibewon’s pivotal role in the Nigerian Army, where he rose through the ranks and served during periods of intense national transformation. As a military governor of the old Western State and later a federal minister, Jemibewon helped shape the direction of public policy and internal security strategy. His stewardship as Minister of Police Affairs laid the foundation for reforms in policing and law enforcement, aimed at enhancing professionalism, accountability, and public trust.
The President also praised Jemibewon for his continued relevance in public life, noting that even in retirement, he remains a respected voice in national discourse. “At 85, General Jemibewon continues to inspire generations of Nigerians through his wisdom, clarity of thought, and commitment to good governance,” Tinubu said.
He further described Jemibewon as a bridge between Nigeria’s past and its future — a man whose insights into leadership, security, and nation-building remain as valuable today as they were during his active years in public service.
In addition to celebrating his achievements, President Tinubu expressed deep gratitude for the general’s support and guidance over the years. He noted that Jemibewon’s contributions to national unity and peace-building have helped sustain the foundations of Nigeria’s democracy.
“General Jemibewon’s legacy is not written only in military records or policy documents,” Tinubu added. “It lives in the stability he helped preserve, the institutions he helped shape, and the lives he touched through his selfless service.”
As the nation honours him on this milestone birthday, President Tinubu prayed for God’s continued grace upon his life, wishing him many more years in good health, peace, and fulfilment.
