Regional Councilors Receive Training in Local Governance Principles.

In Togo, the National Agency for the Training of Local Authorities (ANFCT) initiated a series of training sessions for the country’s regional authorities on Monday, February 17, 2025, in Dapaong. This program primarily targets the newly appointed regional councilors, who took office last January, along with their general secretaries, as reported by ATOP.

The objective of this training is to enhance their understanding of the key issues and goals related to decentralization and deconcentration. It aims to equip them with the necessary tools for making informed decisions and effectively implementing local policies. Additionally, the training seeks to clarify the functions of the regional council, its competencies, and its interactions with various institutional entities, including supervisory ministries, decentralized state services, and civil society.

Participants will engage in essential modules covering topics such as an overview of decentralization and deconcentration, the competencies of the region as a territorial community, and the operational dynamics of the regional council in relation to other stakeholders.

Komi Dodzi Denyo, the Director General of ANFCT, stated that this training initiative is designed to strengthen decentralization efforts and equip regional officials with essential tools for improved management of public affairs.

This program follows an initial phase held last November, which focused on similar topics for municipal stakeholders. After the training session in Dapaong, aimed at the Savanes region, the program will extend to the remaining four regions of the country.

These training sessions align with the mission of ANFCT, which is to provide education and resources to local elected officials, local authority personnel, and state agents engaged in the decentralization process.
