Senate Confirms Joash Amupitan As New INEC Chairman

The Senate on Thursday confirmed Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following his successful screening at the National Assembly.

Professor Amupitan, a renowned legal scholar, was nominated by President Bola Tinubu to succeed the outgoing chairman. During his screening, lawmakers commended his extensive academic background and legal expertise, noting that his experience could help strengthen electoral reforms and uphold transparency in the conduct of elections.

With his confirmation, Professor Amupitan is expected to lead ongoing efforts to enhance the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system, including improving voter registration, election logistics, and the use of technology in voting processes.
