SGF Forum Meeting Strengthens Governance in Nigeria

SGF Forum meeting has been officially declared open by Senator George Akume in Jos, Plateau State. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation presided over the second quarterly gathering of 2025, bringing together Secretaries to the Governments of States. This forum was designed to build stronger coordination between national and sub-national governments. The aim is to harmonize policies, improve service delivery, and strengthen governance across Nigeria.

Senator Akume reminded participants that this is only the second meeting since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office. He stressed that the timing of the meeting reflects the urgency of aligning governance structures nationwide. According to him, progress is impossible without cooperation between federal and state governments. He further noted that the forum stands as a platform where challenges can be reviewed, solutions discussed, and best practices shared.

Moreover, the SGF highlighted that the meeting goes beyond formal discussions. It represents a renewed commitment to service, accountability, and innovation in governance. Every policy introduced at the national level affects states, and every state decision shapes national outcomes. Therefore, this collaboration ensures that governance does not function in isolation but thrives on synergy.

In addition, the gathering in Jos symbolizes the importance of inclusivity. By rotating locations, the forum acknowledges the diversity of Nigeria’s states while promoting unity of purpose. Participants were urged to use the opportunity to build trust, exchange practical insights, and propose reforms that reflect local realities. This approach gives every state a voice while maintaining coherence with national strategies.

The SGF further explained that the country faces pressing challenges such as economic reforms, security concerns, and social development needs. However, he reassured the audience that such obstacles can be overcome when leaders speak with one voice. Through forums like this, Nigeria can move faster toward solutions that are both practical and sustainable.

The atmosphere at the meeting was filled with optimism. Officials from various states welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with federal leadership. Many acknowledged that too often, policy disconnects slow down development. With this forum, bridges are being built, and the voices of states are being heard at the center. The open dialogue fosters unity and demonstrates that governance is most effective when leaders work together.

Furthermore, the Jos meeting underscores the administration’s broader vision of inclusivity and collaboration. President Tinubu’s government has consistently emphasized the need for collective action. This forum provides the foundation for that promise by creating channels for continuous engagement and joint decision-making. Leaders left the opening session inspired to contribute to a culture of shared responsibility.

Ultimately, the SGF Forum meeting stands as more than a quarterly ritual. It represents Nigeria’s commitment to improving governance, aligning national and sub-national goals, and creating a united framework for development. With every session, lessons are learned, policies are refined, and trust is strengthened. Nigerians can expect that such gatherings will continue to shape a governance system that is accountable, effective, and responsive to the needs of all citizens.
