The 2nd General Business Census (RGE-2) in Togo is set to commence on March 3, 2025, and will continue for a duration of two months, concluding on May 3, 2025. This announcement was made during an official ceremony in Lomé on February 20, 2025, led by the Minister of Commerce, Handicrafts, and Local Consumption, Kayi Mivedor.
For this initiative, 1,300 census agents will be deployed, easily recognizable by their badges and vests. Their primary responsibility will be to gather comprehensive data regarding the geographical distribution of businesses, their sizes, and the sectors in which they operate.
The main goal of this census is to equip public authorities and investors with accurate and current information to effectively shape public policies and investment strategies.
To enhance the reliability of the data collected, the operation will incorporate artificial intelligence tools aimed at improving both the accuracy and efficiency of the process. Prior to the census, a phase dedicated to raising awareness among all stakeholders in Lomé and the five economic regions of the country is planned. Additionally, training sessions for agents and controllers, along with a pilot survey to test the system, are part of the preparatory activities.
