Pakistan’s military reported the elimination of 16 Islamist militants near the western border with Afghanistan, according to a statement released on Sunday.
The statement indicated that border forces engaged the militants in a firefight during the night of March 22-23 in the North Waziristan district, resulting in the deaths of all involved.
“Our troops effectively countered and prevented their attempt to infiltrate,” the army’s statement noted.

Islamabad claims that Islamist militants who launch attacks within Pakistan and target the military find refuge in Afghanistan, a claim that Kabul disputes.
This incident coincided with the visit of Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Sadiq Khan, who is in Kabul for two days to discuss bilateral relations and economic matters, as stated by Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul.
