The University of Lomé is Set to Launch Electric Vehicles Made in Togo.

The University of Lomé (UL) is set to establish a manufacturing center for three- and four-wheeled vehicles, facilitated by a collaboration with the Chinese Hebei Enterprise Culture Association (HEICA). This initiative was discussed during a meeting on Monday, December 2, 2024, between UL President Mawulé Adama Kpodar and a delegation from China led by Lisha Yan.

The center will focus on training engineers in the design and production of motorized vehicles. To oversee the project’s execution, a collaborative unit will be formed, comprising technicians from the École Polytechnique de Lomé (EPL) and HEICA, as announced by UL.

Lisha Yan noted that Togo will become the second nation globally, following Thailand, to implement this program, a decision influenced by the high-quality training offered at EPL.

Through this initiative, the University of Lomé aims to emerge as a key player in Africa’s automotive sector. In this context, Professor Kpodar reaffirmed his institution’s dedication to working closely with HEICA to ensure the project’s success and expressed a desire to extend this partnership into other fields, including agronomy.

It is important to note that HEICA represents a consortium of Chinese companies engaged in various industries.
