Tinubu Responds to Tragedy: Condemns Boko Haram, Orders Aid After Borno Bombing and Kano Explosion

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has responded with a mix of grief, condemnation, and decisive action following a weekend of tragedy in Borno and Kano states. A suicide bombing in Konduga, Borno State, and an explosion at a scrap metal factory in Kano prompted immediate reactions from the President, as detailed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Regarding the Borno attack, President Tinubu expressed his deep sorrow for the lives lost, denouncing the bombing as a “cowardly” act perpetrated by Boko Haram insurgents. He conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and the government and people of Borno State, while simultaneously directing the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to mobilize resources and provide comprehensive support to the survivors. Recognizing the evolving tactics of the insurgents, President Tinubu has issued a firm directive to security agencies to intensify their efforts in rooting out the remaining Boko Haram elements, who have increasingly turned to targeting soft targets in an attempt to divert attention from their dwindling capabilities.

In response to the explosion at a scrap metal factory in Kano, which resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, President Tinubu expressed his profound sympathy for the affected families. He emphasized the critical importance of adhering to stringent workplace safety measures and has instructed relevant government institutions to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion. The President stressed the need to identify any lapses in safety protocols and implement corrective measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, underscoring his administration’s commitment to protecting the well-being of workers and ensuring safe working environments across the country. President Tinubu’s dual response highlights his administration’s focus on both national security and public safety.
