Togo: a Project to Evaluate Air Quality in Several Cities, including Lomé.

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the National Environmental Management Agency (ANGE) in Togo initiated the Togo Air Quality Project (PQAT), which is designed to assess, analyze, and enhance air quality in the country’s major urban areas, beginning with the capital. This initiative comes in response to the growing urbanization and focuses on the primary contributors to air pollution, including the use of firewood, unregulated industrial activities, and the open burning of waste.

Lantam Djeri Wake, the coordinator of PQAT, stated, “This project aims to establish monitoring stations to better understand the daily threats we encounter.” The project is organized into three phases: the installation of sensors, the analysis and sharing of data, and the promotion of more sustainable consumption habits. With an estimated budget of 4 billion FCFA, the PQAT is projected to span five years.
