Togo and Slovenia are Exploring Bilateral Cooperation Opportunities.

Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tanja Fajon visited Togo, where she met with Head of Government Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé in Lomé on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Their discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as security, energy, industry and local transformation, education, vocational training, and digital technology.

In light of the increasing instability in the Sahel and surrounding regions, both nations emphasized the importance of a unified and comprehensive approach to address these challenges. They agreed that security, community resilience, and local development should form the foundation of a strategy that is more effective than relying solely on military solutions. “We must implement innovative responses that involve everyone,” stated the Togolese Prime Minister.

Togo has proposed organizing a Slovenian economic mission to Lomé to explore investment and partnership opportunities with the local private sector. This initiative appears to be supported by Ljubljana, as Tanja Fajon noted that both countries face similar challenges, particularly in the realms of public service digitalization and ecological transition.

“I believe Togo and Slovenia share a similar mentality, as well as comparable sizes and challenges, such as the green transition. Therefore, we have much to achieve together,” the Slovenian official remarked.

The Togolese government aims to draw lessons from the Slovenian model to enhance the quality of services for its citizens while boosting its economic appeal. It is anticipated that discussions between the two delegations may result in concrete agreements in the near future.
