Togo: Barry Moussa Barqué Elected as First Senate President

The first Togolese Senate closed its inaugural session, which opened about a month ago, with the election of its officers on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Barry Moussa Barqué, a prominent figure on the national political scene, was elected president of the second chamber of the Togolese parliament for a six-year term. 

He will lead a nine-member office. This election marks the culmination of the Senate’s installation process.

Following this inaugural session, the senators adopted their internal regulations, thus laying the foundations for the parliamentary work to come.

The 61 senators, 41 elected and 20 appointed by the Head of State, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, will meet on Thursday, April 3, 2025 for their first ordinary session.
