With municipal elections scheduled for July 10, 2025, in Togo, political stakeholders are suggesting adjustments to the electoral process, including extending the application deadline.
During the 21st session of the Permanent Consultation Framework (CPC) on May 26, Togolese political figures assessed the current electoral process and presented proposals.
A key concern raised was the pending renewal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). “We call on the President of the National Assembly to initiate this renewal, which has been slow in coming,” said Tchassona Traoré, President of the CPC.
Another area of concern was the recent decree of May 21, 2025, modifying the number of delegates on local electoral commissions. Some parties believe this change, implemented mid-preparatory phase, complicates field operations. Several participants called for a suspension or return to the 2019 framework, or even a postponement of the election if the decree is upheld.

Stakeholders also reiterated their suggestion to extend the application deadline, currently set for May 29 (Ascension Day), to ensure equitable participation.
Hodabalo Awaté, Minister responsible for Territorial Administration, pledged to transmit all recommendations to the President of the Council, hinting at possible adjustments in the coming days.
