Togo: CENI Prepares for the Upcoming Municipal Election.

In preparation for the forthcoming municipal elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) is intensifying its efforts. As of yesterday, Thursday, March 13, the organization has initiated a training program in Lomé specifically for data entry operator trainers (OPS).

The training is being conducted at the Togo 2000 site, where over 3,000 trainers are participating.

Our initial impressions are positive. This morning marks the commencement of the training for trainers and OPS. Following this phase, we will proceed with the revision of the electoral lists,” stated Yawo Dabré, president of CENI, during the training session’s launch.

This training phase is scheduled to continue until March 31, followed by a second round of training before the electoral roll revision operations begin.

The committee chairman emphasized the necessity for prompt registration of eligible citizens, particularly those who have reached voting age since the last census in 2023, as well as individuals who have lost their identification cards or changed their residence.

CENI’s long-term goal is to establish a reliable and current electoral register in preparation for the upcoming elections, which will facilitate the renewal of leadership in the country’s municipalities. The last municipal elections were held in 2019.
