Togo: Evaluation of ProMIFA Conducted

A delegation from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) visited Lomé from March 17 to 21, 2025, to monitor the progress of the Project to Support the Incentive Mechanism for Agricultural Financing Based on Risk Sharing (ProMIFA). This visit was in response to recommendations made during the supervision mission in July 2024.

Under the leadership of Xavier Desmoulins, the delegation engaged with Togolese officials to evaluate the implementation of the project’s recovery and improvement plan. These discussions were instrumental in pinpointing the key challenges that had hindered the project’s success and in formulating recommendations to enhance its effectiveness.

Additionally, the delegation reviewed the progress of the ProMIFA 2025 Annual Work Plan and Budget (PTBA) during this mission.

Initiated in February 2020, ProMIFA is part of the MIFA program and is designed to provide sustainable access to financial services for smallholder farmers and micro, small, and medium-sized agricultural enterprises. The initiative aims to assist these groups in growing their businesses and integrating into markets.

Backed by IFAD, this mechanism employs a risk-sharing strategy to promote financing in the agricultural sector, which is viewed as a crucial driver for growth and poverty alleviation in Togo.
