The Ministry of the Environment in Lomé launched a three-day technical meeting on Monday, May 12, 2025, aimed at enhancing national capabilities to mobilize climate finance. This initiative, part of a project supporting the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), gathers government officials, civil society representatives, technical and financial partners, and specialized consultants.
The primary objective is to improve the quality and “bankability” of projects submitted to donors, aligning them with the precise standards required by climate financing mechanisms. Méry Yaou, Director of the Environment, stressed the need to master these procedures to transform ideas into solid projects that meet international requirements.
Togo is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through its NDCs but faces challenges in securing sufficient financial resources for priority actions in sectors like agriculture, forestry, industrial processes, water, and transport.

Project coordinator Eya Kafui Ahawo stated that the initiative aims to equip local stakeholders with practical tools to maximize funding opportunities and advance the country’s climate agenda in nationally identified priority sectors.
The meeting is supported by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), which Togo officially joined in 2023.
