In 2024, the country saw a total of 2,771 international exchange and solidarity volunteers (VIES), as reported by France Volontaires. This marks a significant 31% increase from the previous year, which had 2,113 volunteers.
This growth can be attributed to improved monitoring systems, including a dedicated reception point at Lomé International Airport, where 1,976 volunteers were identified. Additionally, 795 volunteers were registered through Volunteer Spaces and field missions.
Prominent Female Participation
The report indicates that female volunteers comprised over 80% of the VIES in Togo for the same year, particularly excelling in the social, educational, and health sectors.
Geographically, the majority of volunteers are concentrated in the Maritime region (85%), followed by the Plateaux (13%), while Kara and Centrale account for a mere 2%. No volunteer missions were reported in the Savanes region.
Role of the ANVT
This grassroots initiative, supported by the National Agency for Volunteering in Togo (ANVT) and international partners, aims to enhance the volunteering landscape in Togo, focusing on civic engagement and decentralized cooperation.
At the national level, two key programs, developed in collaboration with the ANVT, have facilitated these exchanges: a strategy to boost local engagement and a continental initiative to organize volunteering efforts across Africa.
