Togo has assumed leadership of the Inter-African Group for the Study, Research and Application of Fertility (GIERAF) for a period of two years. Dr. Kolani Jean Claude takes over from Coulibaly Founzégué Amadou as the president of the organization, following the group’s 9th congress, which took place in Lomé from February 20 to 22, 2025.
The congress provided a platform to discuss the challenges surrounding infertility in Africa, focusing on medical breakthroughs and preventive measures. During the proceedings, the GIERAF management team was granted an audience with the Togolese Prime Minister, Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, who conveyed the government’s backing for the group’s objectives.

Established in 2009 in Lomé, GIERAF consists of 15 countries from West and Central Africa and seeks to enhance the management of infertility through research and medical education. In its initial phase, the organization was directed by Togolese Dr. Moïse Fiadjoe (2009-2011). This new term aims to ramp up efforts to improve access to fertility care across the continent.
