Togo: In 2024, TVM Reported a Revenue of 2.75 Billion FCFA.

In 2024, the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) reported a collection of 2.75 billion CFA francs from the motor vehicle tax (TVM), surpassing the initial estimate of 2.19 billion CFA francs by 25%. This information, recently disclosed by the General Directorate of Budget and Finance (DGBF), indicates a 14.23% increase from the 2023 revenue of 2.41 billion CFA francs.

Tax authorities have welcomed this achievement, attributing it to several key factors. In 2024, the tax calendar was strictly enforced, and field inspections were enhanced, prompting taxpayers to meet the compliance deadline of March 31.

Additionally, the OTR emphasized the impact of digitizing tax payments through a mobile application. This app, designed to streamline the payment process, enables motorists to settle their taxes without needing to visit collection centers in person. According to tax officials, this initiative has led to an increase in the number of taxpayers who have regularized their tax status.

Introduced in January 2019, the TVM serves as a funding source for the upkeep of the Togolese road network. The collected funds are allocated to the Autonomous Road Maintenance Financing Company (SAFER) for management.

The tax amount owed by vehicle owners ranges from 5,000 to 40,000 CFA francs, depending on the vehicle type. This includes two-wheelers with an engine capacity of 125 cm³ or more, tricycles, utility vehicles, buses, trucks, and other heavy goods vehicles registered in Togo.
