Togo Invests in AI Education to Boost Technological Sovereignty

Togo has announced an ambitious plan to train 50,000 students annually in artificial intelligence (AI), coding, and digital English. To achieve this, the government has launched a pilot program at the University of Lomé, targeting 1,500 students in the initial phase this year.

The initiative aims to equip Togolese youth with essential skills for the digital economy, fostering inclusion and driving structural transformation of human capital.

Cina Lawson, Minister in charge of Digitalization and the Digital Economy, described the program as “a strategic investment in Togo’s technological sovereignty.”

The program is being implemented in partnership with the American startup Kira Learning and is designed as a national program offering free training in AI, Python programming, and digital English.

Andrea Pasinetti, CEO of Kira Learning, praised the initiative as “a visionary partnership” that positions Togo as a pioneer in digital learning in Africa.
