Togo’s 2025 national reforestation campaign officially launched on Sunday, June 1st, across the country. The year-long initiative is backed by 11.18 billion CFA francs in funding, according to data released by the Ministry of the Environment and reported by the national daily Togo Presse.
With this funding, the government aims to reforest 34,563 hectares of land this year, planting 37.71 million seedlings of various species mobilized by the Ministry of the Environment. On the first day of the campaign alone, an estimated 2,000,000 seedlings were planted, according to the ministry.
This initiative is part of the national reforestation policy, which aims to plant one billion trees by 2030, with the goal of achieving 25% forest cover. Led by the Ministry of the Environment, the program aligns with the government’s priorities for combating climate change, restoring degraded ecosystems, and preserving natural resources.
Extending this campaign, Togolese authorities are organizing the 4th edition of the Environment and Sustainable Development Fortnight (QEDD) from June 5 to 17, 2025, under the theme: “Pollution and Nuisance: What Solutions to Deal with It?”. This fortnight aims to raise public awareness and promote sustainable practices by mobilizing citizens around environmental protection.
The event will feature various activities designed to raise collective awareness of issues surrounding pollution, waste management, and climate change.
