Togo Launches Nationwide Campaign for At-Risk Women’s Supplementary Judgments.

Last week, the Togolese Ministry of Social Action and Women’s Rights launched a national initiative aimed at providing supplementary judgments to 1,000 women in lieu of birth certificates.

This program is part of the celebrations for International Women’s Rights Day 2025, which will take place on March 8, and is being implemented in partnership with the Ministries of Territorial Administration and Justice. The initiative seeks to alleviate the challenges faced by numerous women who do not have access to identity documents, despite existing legal protections.

Abidé Kpessi, the Director of Gender and Women’s Rights, stated, “While the law guarantees the right to identity, many women still struggle to obtain these essential documents.”

The campaign aims to assist 200 women in each region, with beneficiaries being chosen by prefects, traditional leaders, and regional directors from the Ministry of Social Action.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Rights Day is “For all women and girls: rights, equality, and empowerment.”
