Togo: MPs Held a Special Session to Discuss Various Issues.

Since Tuesday, March 4, 2025, Togolese deputies have been convening in an extraordinary session to review eight legislative proposals related to national security, economic governance, and competitiveness. This session, called by President Faure Gnassingbé, marks the first extraordinary meeting of the year.

The agenda features several critical bills, including one to extend the state of emergency in the Savanes region, a proposal concerning intelligence operations, and legislation aimed at combating money laundering, terrorism financing, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Additionally, the deputies will address bills related to the public finance settlements for the fiscal years 2020 and 2021.

Other governance matters under consideration include legislation on public enterprises, initiatives to combat climate change, and amendments to the law governing the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR).

These reforms, particularly the revision of the OTR law and enhancements to the legal framework against money laundering and terrorism financing, are part of ongoing efforts to modernize the nation’s economic governance.

The President of the National Assembly, Kodjo Sévon-Tépé Adédzé, emphasized the importance of this extraordinary session, noting that citizens expect prompt and tangible responses to their daily challenges. He urged fellow representatives to ensure that the public interest remains central to their discussions and decisions.
