Togo: OTR Updates Transit Exemption Regulations for Kétao-Kémérida.

The Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) announced a regulatory update last week regarding the exemption from the Statistical Fee (RS) for goods in transit.

Effective March 1, 2025, goods entering Togo through the Kétao-Kémérida customs office (TG522) will now be required to pay this tax, in line with the new regulatory framework.

Previously, only goods entering through the Autonomous Port of Lomé under the transit regime (IM8) were exempt from this fee. With this adjustment, the OTR aims to enhance the regulation of trade flows and improve compliance within the Togolese customs system.

In an official press release dated February 17, 2025, Commissioner General Philippe Kokou B. Tchodie encouraged economic operators to modify their procedures to align with the new tax regulations. This reform is also designed to enhance the oversight of commercial transactions and optimize government revenue.

For businesses and importers utilizing the Kétao-Kémérida route, this change necessitates a swift adaptation to the new tax obligations. However, the OTR has committed to implementing all necessary support measures to ease this transition and ensure the effective enforcement of the regulations.
