Togo Resumes Mass Biometric Registration for National e-ID Project

Togo will resume its mass biometric registration campaign on Monday, May 12, 2025, in the Golfe prefecture, following a nearly three-month suspension.

This resumption marks a significant step forward in the implementation of the e-ID Togo project, led by INSEED and ANID, as part of the broader West Africa Unique Identification for Regional Integration (WURI) program.

The ultimate goal is to assign a Unique Identification Number (NIU) to every resident of Greater Lomé, and eventually the entire Togolese territory, based on biometric and demographic data.

INSEED has emphasized the commitment expected of its agents in ensuring the success of this important phase for the public.

While the initial mass rollout was originally projected for the last quarter of 2023, the WURI-Togo project, supported by a $72 million investment from the World Bank, is now moving forward. This project is part of a larger sub-regional initiative.
