Togo’s Aného Festival to Celebrate Egyptian and Togolese Diversity

Following Turkey, Egypt will be the guest of honor at the 4th edition of the Aného International History Festival (FIHA), scheduled for November 20-23, 2025. The announcement was made last Saturday in Aného by the organizing committee, chaired by Alexis Aquereburu, mayor of the Lacs 1 commune.

The land of the pharaohs will be represented by a large delegation showcasing its cultural, historical, and artistic wealth at the event, which has become a hub for promoting heritage and cultural cooperation. The Togolese city of Bassar is also expected as a guest of honor.

Under the theme “Diversity,” this new edition aims, according to organizers, to continue the tradition of a festival combining science, arts, culture, and economics. The program includes scientific symposia, conferences, debates, panels, and artistic and festive events, such as concerts, an international carnival, live shows, and local performances.

For Florent Tiassou, FIHA’s general commissioner, “tradition will be respected,” with content that is both intellectual and popular, in line with the festival’s ambitions. He stated that the choice of Egypt, the cradle of a civilization spanning thousands of years and a symbol of cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity, is part of this dynamic.

According to the Egyptian ambassador to Togo, Ahmed Mohamed Eid, his country will respond to the invitation with the participation of a diverse delegation composed of dance troupes, chefs, entrepreneurs, and filmmakers. “Egypt will be at home in Aného. Festival-goers will discover our dances, our flavors, and our films,” he said.

The city of Bassar, meanwhile, was chosen for its cultural and linguistic richness. Known for its traditions of blacksmithing, yam farming, and fire dancing, it will embody Togo’s living heritage in all its diversity.
