In Lomé, the Attiégou market has officially reopened and will operate every Tuesday and Friday. The reopening was celebrated with a ceremony on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
Initiated by the Golfe 2 municipality, this effort aims to boost local commerce and revitalize an infrastructure that was inaugurated in 2017 but has seen limited use. To support business operators, the town hall has announced a one-year tax exemption to facilitate the market’s revival. “For now, there will be no taxes. For one year, until the market can regain its activity,” it was stated.
Additionally, improvements such as enhanced security measures, public lighting, and modernization efforts—including restrooms, kiosks, and security personnel—have been introduced and showcased to the community. “Our goal is to foster an environment that supports female entrepreneurship and local development,” remarked Konou Noukafou, the mayor of the commune.
