Togo’s Inflation Slows Slightly to 2.5% in April 2025

Togo’s inflation rate reached 2.5% in April 2025, a slight decrease from 2.7% in March. This marginal slowdown occurs amidst economic adjustments, where the regulation of agricultural markets and targeted measures on imported products appear to be mitigating inflationary pressures.

Specifically, the Harmonized Consumer Price Index (HCPI) increased by 1.0% in April compared to March, driven by higher prices for food products (+3.1%) and accommodation services (+1.4%). Year-on-year inflation was 0.8%, influenced by the continued rise in food prices (+5.2%), partially offset by lower transport costs (-2.0%).

Overall, inflationary dynamics remain contained, despite pressure on food products, especially staple foods.

Within the consumer basket, certain basic food products experienced significant price increases in April: green chilies rose by 124%, local round tomatoes by 109%, and palm kernel oil by nearly 98%. Conversely, charcoal and running water saw notable price decreases during the same period.
