In Togo, municipal elections are scheduled for Thursday, July 10, 2025. This date was confirmed after a Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, April 30, in Lomé, where a decree was issued to formalize the election date. The campaign period will commence at midnight on Tuesday, June 24, and conclude at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, as outlined in a statement aired on national television. During this two-week timeframe, candidates will have the opportunity to present their proposals to voters and advocate for their political views across the nation.
To promote women’s involvement in local politics, the authorities have established a deposit fee of 50,000 CFA francs for candidates, with a reduced fee of 25,000 CFA francs for female candidates, which is half of what is required from their male counterparts. Additionally, the topic of public campaign financing was addressed, with a budget of 500 million CFA francs allocated for this purpose.
According to the electoral code, 65% of this budget will be evenly distributed among all candidates, while the remaining 35% will be allocated based on electoral performance, with parties receiving at least 10% of the votes qualifying for this second distribution. Security measures are also being implemented to oversee the election process, with defense and security forces deployed nationwide to ensure operations run smoothly.
An early voting day is set for Monday, July 7, specifically for law enforcement personnel, allowing them to participate in the election without interfering with their responsibilities of maintaining security during the election.
