The National Meteorological Agency (ANAMET) announced on Wednesday, May 14, that the main rainy season has begun in Northern Togo and is expected to bring normal to above-average rainfall between June and September 2025.
The Savannah region is predicted to receive normal to above-average rainfall during June, July, and August. Similarly, the Kara and Central regions are forecast to experience above-average rainfall during the same period. This trend of generally above-average to normal rainfall is expected to continue throughout the northern regions of the country between July and September.
ANAMET anticipates that this weather outlook will impact the agricultural sector. Therefore, they advise farmers and rural populations to prioritize improved, short-cycle, high-yield crop varieties that are better adapted to the expected climatic conditions.

The hydrological situation presents a mixed outlook. The Oti River basin may experience excess water levels, leading to potential overflows and flooding. The Agency urges caution and advises avoiding areas prone to flooding. In contrast, the upper Mono River basin may face a water deficit.
ANAMET notes that these forecasts are subject to change based on variations in weather conditions.
