In Togo, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is initiating emergency food assistance aimed at supporting vulnerable communities in the Savanes region. This initiative, announced in a press release on February 19, 2025, is set to assist over 10,500 individuals, including refugees, internally displaced persons, and local host communities.
The assistance will be provided through electronic vouchers, enabling families to acquire essential food items from authorized vendors, thereby ensuring a transparent and accountable distribution process.
Each household will receive a monthly voucher valued at up to 40,000 FCFA, tailored to the household size, for a duration of three months (February-April 2025). The targeted areas include Dapaong, Cinkassé, Kourientré, Djakpaga, and Poissongui. It is important to highlight that this operation is supported financially by the European Union (EU).

“Thanks to the European Union’s support, we are implementing an effective and innovative solution that also stimulates the local economy,” stated Dr. Moïse Ballo, WFP Resident Representative in Togo.
WFP reports that the Savanes region is experiencing the highest levels of acute food insecurity. From October to December 2024, over 175,000 individuals were confronted with a food crisis and emergency levels of acute food insecurity (IPC 3+), representing 14.3% of the region’s total population.
