YAS Leads Togo’s Mobile Services with a Compliance Rate of 74.43%.

The compliance rates for YAS (previously known as TogoCom) and Moov Africa Togo (MAT) stand at 74.43% and 55.62%, respectively. These figures represent the findings from the second national campaign aimed at assessing the quality of services provided by the two mobile operators in the Togolese market. This initiative, carried out by the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARCEP), took place between December 2, 2024, and January 21, 2025, reflecting the performance for the year 2024. The results indicate a general trend of ongoing service improvement.

YAS experienced a growth of 3.75% relative to its initial campaign in 2024 and is nearing the regulatory limits, while MAT saw a significant enhancement of 11.01% in service quality, although it still lags behind the regulatory standards.

Differences between Greater Lomé and the rural areas

In general, the services provided by the two telecommunications companies are considerably superior in Greater Lomé, achieving compliance rates of 83.48% for YAS and 82.14% for MAT.

The findings disclosed by the Togolese telecommunications regulator at the end of last week, in the presence of journalists and consumer association representatives, indicate compliance rates of 72.94% and 51.25% across the nation.

Voice Service: YAS leads over its rival MAT in Greater Lomé, achieving a compliance rate of 98.21% compared to MAT’s 55.36%.

Internet: MAT excels in 3G and 4G performance.

For 3G internet services, MAT boasts a compliance rate of 94.05%, while YAS trails with 73.81%. Regarding 4G mobile internet, which is the predominant technology in Togo according to the campaign results, the Togolese branch of Maroc Telecoms Group reports an 88.10% compliance rate, whereas Axian Telecoms’ subsidiary achieves an 83.33% compliance rate.

At the national level, MAT leads in overall competition; however, YAS excels in the efficiency of its voice and internet services within the country. “The compliance rates for YAS stand at 75.59% for voice services, 67.45% for 3G mobile internet, and 76.67% for 4G mobile internet. In contrast, MAT’s figures are 41.47%, 56.08%, and 52.94% respectively,” states Michel Yaovi Galley, Director General of Arcep-Togo.

The telecom regulator acknowledges and appreciates the ongoing performance of both operators regarding the quality of mobile services provided, aiming to sustain this positive trend. It is also important to note that in 2023, YAS (formerly TogoCom) and MAT were recognized as the top mobile internet service providers in the UEMOA region, as reported by ARCEP in a press release dated May 6.
