Fire Razes Section Of Federal Secretariat In Nasarawa, Destroys Property Worth Millions

An inferno has razed down part of the Justice Muhammad Sidi Bage, Federal Secretariat, Lafia, Nasarawa state capital, destroying property worth millions of naira.

The fire, which began at about 4:00 PM, on Saturday evening was contained by the combined efforts of the Federal and State Fire Services.

Addressing journalists a moment after an on-the-spot assessment of the facility, the state commissioner of police Nasarawa state command, Shettima Jauro, disclosed that the personnel of the command have been deployed to cordon off the facility to avert hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to vandalise other offices.

He, however, applauded the combined efforts of the Federal and State Fire Services for putting out the fire.

His words, “It was this afternoon when we were coming back from the supervision of the election that is taking place that we were reliably informed that the Federal Secretariat is on fire.

“So based on that, we rushed to the area, and we discovered that it’s not all that bad. It was a place where they normally keep the inverter panels. So, they caught fire because of a lack of ventilation. But as God will have it, the fire service has put out the fire.

“So, as I’m telling you now, we have now deployed our men strategically. Police and Civil Defence, they are now guarding the facility.”

The Fire Service Official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the fire has been brought under control.

But, however, stated the immediate cause of the fire would be investigated.
