Uganda Quarantines Over 100 People Following Rare Ebola Outbreak

Authorities in Uganda have placed more than 100 people under quarantine following a rare outbreak of Ebola linked to the Bundibugyo strain, as health officials intensify efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

The quarantined individuals are being monitored at an undisclosed location while medical teams observe them for possible symptoms of infection. Ugandan officials have maintained that the situation remains under control, stressing that the country’s extensive experience managing infectious disease outbreaks has strengthened its emergency response systems.

Speaking on the development, Alan Kasujja, who also serves as the Ebola Task Force Communications Focal Person, said experienced health personnel were handling the situation. “All you need to know at this point is that over 100 people have been identified and they are being quarantined, and they are being treated by very experienced medical people,” he said.

Kasujja noted that Uganda had previously dealt successfully with outbreaks of Ebola, COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS, urging the public to remain vigilant and comply with health guidelines issued by authorities. Health officials have not yet disclosed the exact location of the quarantine facility or the number of confirmed infections linked to the outbreak.

The latest outbreak comes amid growing concerns across the region as the World Health Organization warns about the “scale and speed” of a worsening Ebola crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Authorities in Congo say at least 131 people have died, while more than 500 suspected cases have been recorded, fuelling fears of wider regional transmission.
